Warwickshire Safer Schools Programme Evaluation

The Observatory has recently completed an evaluation of the Safer Schools Programme in Warwickshire.
The Programme is a multi-agency approach to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in schools and the wider community and involves having a Police Community Support Officer based within a school, focused on early intervention and prevention, working with young people to build relationships in a safer environment.

The six objectives of the programme are to:

1) Protect children and young people from harm.
2) Reduce youth crime and anti-social behaviour.
3) Prevent young children and young people from becoming victims.
4) Ensure the diverse needs of our community are met.
5) Support a safer school environment.
6) Ensure suitably trained staff across all agencies.

The evaluation of the programme included consultation with the Safer Schools Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), consultation with students and an analysis of both crime and disorder and education data in the safer schools areas.

The key findings and recommendations have been presented to the Safer Schools Board and an executive summary provided which will inform a countywide media strategy scheduled in the next few months.
