New Crime Mapping System Launched Today!

The Home Office has launched a website of detailed crime maps which allow residents to check for criminal activity in their area. The website provides a breakdown of crimes by town, neighbourhood and street.

The Home Office and National Policing Improvement Agency have been working with the Police Service to develop an online platform where the public can access their local data. In the same way as the previous Crime Mapper website, the data is extracted directly from police force crime and incident recording systems and uploaded to the public facing website, directly by the police forces. The data does not pass to the Home Office and therefore is a direct representation of current provisional local data on crimes and incidents reported to the police.

As well as crime maps, the public will also be able to download data relating to police forces or other localities directly from the website in csv format as well as through an Application Processing Interface (API).

You can access the maps here…

UPDATE: The website has crashed!  You can also access the data here
