The Observatory is supporting colleagues in social care services with a new consultation on proposals to change way the council’s Day Care and Transportation services are charged for. WCC has decided that it can no longer afford to subsidise these services, and wants greater fairness in the way certain services are charged for.
The new proposals suggest that the full cost of Day Care should be charged based on the type of client using the service (e.g. mental health, physical disability). In terms of Transportation services, the proposal is to charge all customers who receive a transport service through adult social care (e.g. travelling to day care) and to do so through the introduction of banded rates dependant upon the shortest distance from where the customer lives to where they are travelling.
