ONS released ward level population estimates for mid-2010

The Mid-2010 Small Area Population Estimates were published today on the National Statistics website. These estimates are consistent with the published local authority mid-year estimates and include estimates by Ward.

Census Area Statistics (CAS) wards are used for 2001 Census outputs, they are based on administrative ward boundaries legally in force at the end of 2002:

In 2003 a new policy was introduced across National Statistics to minimise the statistical impact of frequent electoral ward boundary changes, particularly in England. Under this policy any changes to English or Welsh ward boundaries promulgated (laid down in statute) by the end of a calendar year will be implemented for statistical purposes on 1 April of the following year, irrespective of the year the actual change comes into operation. 2010 wards are wards as at 31 December 2010.
