Unemployment update – October 2011 figures

The Job Seekers’ Allowance (JSA) claimant count in October 2011 was 8,670 in Warwickshire; a rate of 2.6% of the resident working age population. This represents a fall of 330 claimants or -3.7% from the previous month.

In line with the falls in the overall claimant count, the number of JSA claimants aged 18-24 has fallen in Warwickshire over the last month.  In October 2011 there were 2,700 claimants aged 18-24 (6.3% of all 18-24 year olds).  Although compared to the same time last year, the rates of 18-24 year olds have seen a marked increase (2,555 claimants or 5.9% in October 2010).

The broader ILO definition of unemployment for the UK for the three months to September 2011 was 8.3%. The rate was up 0.4 percentage points on the previous quarter.
